General Information
POLi is an online payment option which facilitates a Pay Anyone internet banking payment from a customer's bank account to a merchant. This can be done via integration with your website checkout or via POLi Links - short URLs which can be emailed or embedded in an invoice.
POLi is a great alternative for people without credit cards, or for those who have them - but would prefer not to use them to shop online.
POLi is favoured by customers and merchants as it guides the customer through the payment process. The amount, reference information and banking details are pre-populated ensuring there are no reconciliation errors. When the payment is confirmed the merchant and customer both receive a completed payment notification.
Choose to pay with Internet Banking wherever you see the POLi payment option
Select your bank and click proceed with payment
Log in directly to your bank
Follow the prompts to complete the Pay Anyone transaction (may include selecting account or entering second factor information)

There are no establishment fees, and Australian and NZ merchants pay no ongoing monthly fees. Our standard rate is 1% capped at $3, however we have alternative rate plans for Billers, Not for Profit organisations etc. For more information please contact us by clicking here.

Some financial institutions like CBA may hold funds for up to 24 hours or more while they complete internal checks. POLi has no control or visibility when this happens for POLi. You may wish to consider waiting for 24 hours for the funds to settle. Otherwise, you may wish to contact your financial institution for more information
Some financial institutions may put a hold on the fund transfer or reverse transactions due to their internal processes including security or fraud checks. You may wish to consider factoring in any possibility for delayed settlements into your own risk profile before you provide services or products to the end consumer.
To help support your business with this issue, we can disable any financial institution from your Payer Bank List. We are also willing to block any payer accounts that you may have concerns about, from using our services.
As you may know, under our contract with you, we have flagged that a banking receipt cannot be conclusive proof that the funds have been processed by the financial institutions or deposited into your bank account. This is because there are factors outside of POLi’s control (which can include the actions of your financial institution) in relation to any payment transaction.
PayID: General
NPP
NPP refers to ‘The New Payments Platform, Australia’s new real-time payments system, allowing for the quick movement of payments between accounts at different financial institutions. It was built by the Australian financial services sector and the Reserve Bank of Australia.
PayID
PayID is an initiative from NPP, and is a simple service linked to your chosen bank account, making paying money to any account fast, safe and easy to use. Your PayID can be a phone number, email address or registered business number.
Note: The only type of PayID generated by POLi™ will resemble an email address (that is, no phone number or business number will be generated via POLi™). This email address will be unique and generated per transaction. An example of a PayID generated by POLi™ is “<merchantname1234>@polipayments.com.au”.
A person or business pays you by using their mobile or internet banking and choosing the option to make a payment to a PayID instead of a BSB and account number. When they enter your PayID they will be shown the name you have chosen to display with your PayID, so they can check they are paying the right person before making the payment.
PayID was first made available for general public use in February 2018. As of 2022, more than 100 banks and credit unions all over the country have adopted the system
You can view the list of participating banks and credit unions on the NPP website.
Customers simply use the PayID generated at the point of payment and use it in your internet banking app or website to make payment to the relevant merchant supplying the goods or services.
Payments made via PayID will be typically received in near real-time. Payments can be received in real-time at any time, including weekends and public holidays. However, there are some payments which may take longer.
If you are a new merchant, visit our website to sign up.
If you are an existing POLi merchant please contact POLi at helpdesk@polipayments.com.au

Yes, customers can still use the pay anyone option. PayID will be an additional payment option available to your customers. PayID is supported by more than 100 banks and credit unions across Australia; this means more customers can use this PayID option to pay for goods and services.
This is not possible, POLi™ PayID is an additional product. You will need the ‘pay anyone’ regardless to receive payments, PayID is an add on product.
No, customers cannot use the same PayID. POLi™ creates a unique PayID per transaction. Once payment is made, the PayID will be no longer active. Your customer will need to generate a new unique PayID for every transaction.
The PayID (email address) will contain the merchant's name. However, when the customer goes to the bank account to make the payment they will see the message as 'This PayID is registered to POLi™ payments’. Once the payment is made by the customer our backend systems will ensure the money is settled into the merchant account in near real-time.
For example, a customer is purchasing tickets via Jetstar’s website and paying via POLi™ PayID. Once they log into their bank account via a web browser/app and selects ‘pay anyone’, they will paste the POLi™ PayID in the format of “<merchantname1234>@polipayments.com.au”. Once this is pasted, the name of the PayID holder will appear as “POLi™ Payments”.
PayID: Receiving Payments
No, you do not have to create a PayID. POLi™ system will generate a unique PayID per transaction, and your customers can use this PayID to make the purchase.
In most cases, you will not have to make any changes. However, some banks may hold funds for up to 24 hours or more while they complete internal checks. If you wish to receive payments via such banks (which include CBA), you will have to make minimum technical changes. Please refer to the Developer Guide for PayID for more information.
If you have more questions, please contact your account manager or POLi Payment at helpdesk@polipayments.com.au.
You need to have an NPP enabled account to receive payments via PayID. PayID is supported by more than 100 banks and credit unions across Australia; please view the list of NPP enabled banks at the NPP website.

No, you cannot accept recurring payments with the same PayID. POLi™ creates a unique PayID per transaction. Once the payment is made, the PayID will no longer be active. Your customer will need to generate a new unique PayID for every transaction.
No, you don’t. To start receiving fast PayID payments you will need to accept/sign the merchant agreement's terms, make any required technical integration changes and provide any additional documentation (if any applicable) as reasonably required by POLi™ and/or its service providers.
Transaction Unsuccessful: Appears as a result of payment not going through due to incorrect payment amount, checks completed by bank.
Transaction Cancelled: Occurs when the user cancels the transaction.
Transaction Failed: Occurs when a transaction experiences a non recoverable problem, such as a bank specific problem, a bank connection dropout, or a communication error. There also may be a problem with the POLi™ system at the time.
A refund refers to the merchant sending money back to the customer after the funds have been settled to the merchant. POLi™ does not currently facilitate refunds. If a customer requests a refund, they will need to contact the seller directly.
A return refers to funds which have not been settled to merchants and will occur in the following circumstances:
The customer has made an incorrect payment.
The customer has made a duplicate payment.
Payment was not settled to the merchant due to system errors.
If any of these situations arise, POLi™ aims to investigate and provide a resolution within a reasonable timeframe.
